Hulled Sunflower Chips: Hulled Sunflower is the birds’ favorite food but without the mess of shell debris. Get more birds for your bucks by offering sunflower seeds without their shells. No shells means no mess under your feeder. Hulled sunflower seeds have a high oil content and provide birds with an extra kick of energy. It's an ideal seed to offer in feeders near patios, sidewalks or balconies. Offering hulled sunflower is also cost efficient, because you're not paying for the shells that are not consumed. Our Hulled Sunflower is available in chips that can fit in a variety of feeders.
Bag Size: 5 lbs. (2.26 kg ), 20 lbs. (9.07 kg) and 50 lbs. (22.67 kg)
Premium Black Oil Sunflower Seed: Premium Black Oil Sunflower is a favorite of almost all seed-eating birds and the most common ingredient in our blends. Our Premium Black Oil Sunflower is a great source of energy for the birds and 99% free of sticks, stems or other foreign matter so your feeders won't clog with debris. Oil sunflower has a high calorie/ounce ratio due to its high fat and protein content and its relatively thin shell. Among seed ingredients, oil sunflower attracts the greatest variety of small and large seed-eating birds. Studies by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology have shown that most birds prefer oil sunflower seeds to both striped sunflower and white proso millet. Fill your feeders with this top-grade fuel, and watch the birds flock.
Bag Sizes: 22 lbs. (10 kg) and 50 lbs. (22.68 kg)
Safflower Seed: Sunflower-eating birds love Safflower; squirrels and blackbirds typically don’t. If you are looking to be more exclusive with your bird feeding, Safflower may be the solution for you. Many of your favorite birds will enjoy safflower, yet blackbirds, grackles and squirrels typically don't. Safflower can be offered in WBU Hopper, platform or WBU Tube feeders, and it is especially helpful for WBU Window or deck feeders where blackbirds or squirrels may be a problem. Offer safflower gradually, mixing it with the seed blends you currently provide, and over time, you'll end up with a dining spot for all kinds of birds, including House Finches, woodpeckers, nuthatches and chickadees.
Bag Sizes: 5 lbs. (2.26 kg ), 10 lbs. (4.53 kg), and 20 lbs. (9.07 kg)
NutraSaff™: NutraSaff™, also sometimes called Golden Safflower, is a safflower hybrid specifically developed to have a thinner hull and higher levels of oil, protein and fat than traditional safflower. It’s easier and healthier for your birds to eat, and studies show that birds prefer it 2 to 1 over traditional safflower! Squirrels and grackles tend to not be attracted to it.
Bag Sizes: 5 lbs. (2.26 kg), 10 lbs. (4.53 kg), and 20 lbs. (9.07 kg)
Nyjer® (Thistle) Seed: Nyjer® (thistle) is finches' favorite food. Nyjer's® high oil content makes it an excellent energy source for active birds, and it's best used in our specially designed WBU Finch Feeders. It is important to keep the food fresh because finches can be picky eaters. Nyjer® has a thin shell and is vulnerable to spoilage while in the tube. Once seed starts to dry out and become stale, finches will look for fresher forage. Replace Nyjer® in feeders every three to four weeks if it is not being actively eaten. Store your Nyjer® in an airtight container for a longer shelf life and buy in quantities that will be used up in a few weeks.
Bag Sizes: 5 lbs. (2.26 kg ), 10 lbs. (4.53 kg), and 20 lbs. (9.07 kg)

White Millet: White millet or white proso millet is a major ingredient in many wild bird seed mixes, but it is also wonderful to offer to birds just by itself. The tiny seeds of white millet are desirable to many species of birds but it is a hands-down favourite of some species, especially Mourning Doves, Dark-Eyed Juncos, native sparrows, towhees, quail and bobwhite. One of our most colourful songbirds Indigo Buntings – adore white millet. Another incredibly beautiful bird species, Scarlet Tanagers, will eat white millet even though they are not generally considered to be attracted to seeds at all. Even birds that prefer black oil sunflower seeds – Northern Cardinals, American Goldfinches, Purple Finches and Pine Siskins, for example – will readily eat white millet if their seed of first choice is not available. The outer shell of white millet is easily opened by birds with small beaks but is hard enough to protect it from the weather, making it safe to offer it on the ground – exactly where the species it attracts prefer to eat. An added bonus is that there are so many seeds in a bag of white millet, enough to keep your favorite ground-feeding backyard birds happy for quite a long time. Because we only want to provide you with the freshest bird seed you can pick up white millet from WBU Barrie by special order.
Bag Sizes: 5 lbs. (2.26 kg) and 20 lbs. (9.07 kg)
SunFire™ Chips: Our SunFire™ Chips allow you to feed your birds while discouraging squirrels and other critters! These hulled sunflower chips are treated with hot-pepper. Birds will flock to it and leave no messy shell waste behind. The bag features a special pour spout for easy feeder filling without having to scoop or touch this hot pepper food.
Approximately 90% of Eastern Gray Squirrels and Red Squirrels do not eat WBU Hot Pepper Products. There is also evidence to suggest that WBU Hot Pepper Products are effective at deterring a variety of mammals including, but not limited to, Fox Squirrels, Eastern Gray Squirrels, Red Squirrels, rabbits, rats, mice, White-tailed Deer, Mule Deer, raccoons, opossums and skunks. Chipmunks are a bit more challenging as they have fur-lined cheek pouches and this fur seems to act as a barrier to the effectiveness of the products. Hot pepper products contain capsaicin, a strong irritant to eyes, nose and skin. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling. Keep out of reach of children.
