Upcoming In-Store Events

We would love for you to join us for the upcoming special events!

A Note About Wild Birds Unlimited Presentations: For presentations beginning at 10 am on Saturdays or 11 am on Sundays doors will open at our regularly scheduled opening time. For all other presentation times please ensure that you have arrived 15 minutes prior to the given start time as the presentations will begin at their scheduled time. Unless otherwise indicated all events are FREE for participants and seating is available on a first come first seated basis. Presentations are aimed at an adult audience (unless otherwise indicated).

A Note About Participation in Our Bird Walks: Due to high demand and in an effort to be fair to everyone, priority registration for bird walks will be given to people who have not participated in a walk during a given calendar year. Previous participants from other walks are welcome to go on a waiting list and may be added if room allows. At this time bird walks are open to adults only.

Please Note: Scheduled events and presentations are guidelines only and subject to change due to the availability of presenters, inclement weather and other unforeseen complications. We make every effort to ensure our in-store events go off on time as originally planned.

COVID-19 UPDATE AND IN-STORE PRESENTATIONS

As the situation with Coronavirus (COVID-19) unfolds, we want you to know that the well-being of our customers and staff members is our top priority. We have made the difficult decision to follow the advice of local authorities in regards to social-distancing and to temporarily suspend our in-store presentations at this time, beginning with Managing Blackbirds scheduled for our Barrie location March 22nd at 11 a.m.

However, we are happy to announce that we will be offering this (and as the situation unfolds, possibly more) presentation online! Simply register using the form below the presentation you'd like to view and you will receive your private viewing link via email the day of the presentation. Not available right at 11 am? Not to worry, the link will allow you to view the presentation even after it's over. Please continue to watch this page and our facebook events as we will be addressing each event as we get closer to it due to the ever-changing events.

While spending more time at home, you may find that feeding the birds can provide entertainment and respite. You can keep your feeders filled by ordering online at mywbu.com/newmarket. Shipping is Free on all orders over $99* (some restrictions apply) and in-store pickup is always FREE. During these uneasy times, we are also offering curb-side pickup if you prefer not to come into the store at all, simply call us when you arrive and we will bring your order out to you!

Stay safe and healthy over the coming days and be extra kind to one another!

Sincerely,

Your WBU Barrie & Newmarket Team

Seedy Saturday - Bradford Library

CANCELLED - Saturday, March 21, 2020

Message from the Event Host:

We have seen many updates in the media regarding the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). Most recently, there have been impacts around our community and within the County of Simcoe. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library is taking several steps to protect our staff and community members, especially the high-risk populations we serve on a daily basis.  In order to mitigate the spread of the virus, the BWG Library Board has authorized the closing of the BWG Library. We plan on reopening at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 6. Full details are available on our website at www.bradford.library.on.ca.  Please check back here and on the BWG Library's website for updates.

It’s Earth’s Birthday this week, so why not have a party? As nature lovers, we all want to do whatever we can to help ensure the longevity and safety of not just our backyard birds, but the planet itself.  We all do our part daily, but what if we could do more? Join us for our “Earth Day Party” - Recycling Education Event, on Saturday, April 18, 2020 and find out! This drop-in event runs from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in-store and is free and suitable for all ages.

This event will feature games, puzzles and displays to help teach us what goes in what bin, and what items can be recycled that you may not have realized (for sample, our WBU Seed Bags!).  We will also feature Cornell Labs 7 Steps to Save Songbirds and how that relates to the Earth, plus lots of great earth-friendly household products, and recycled bird feeding products. Not to mention, the first 40 people in store will receive a FREE stainless-steel reusable straw to help you ditch those plastic ones for good.  We hope you can join us!

This presentation concentrates on how you can best prepare your yard to attract these nectar and fruit loving birds using food, water and several other key features. This presentation is packed full of photos of these brilliantly coloured backyard birds and is a must hear for anyone who feeds the birds or would like to learn more about the birds in their area.  2020-04-26 - Mason Bee Education

Mason Bee Education

Sunday, April 26, 2020 - Presentation at 11 a.m. - Pre-registration is Required.

Blue Orchard Mason Bees are a species commonly found in North America and can be released in your garden to successfully pollinate your flowers, trees, shrubs, fruits and vegetables. Mason Bee cocoons can be released when conditions are optimal, when daytime temperatures have reached about 10-13°C (50-55°F) or 10% of spring blooms are happening. Simply release them in your yard and provide your garden and neighbourhood with instant pollination and biodiversity. Female bees will return to the area they hatched to lay their eggs and having a pollen bee nest available to them will ensure the bees continue to flourish in your area.

WBU Newmarket is proud to sell Mason Bee Cocoons along with some of the best BEE HOUSES and PRODUCTS for backyard bees! To help your bees be as successful as possible we will also be giving a presentation at 10:00 all about rearing and releasing mason bees. Presentations are aimed at an adult audience.

Pre-registration is required as space is limited for this event, please fill out the registration form below to confirm your spot:
