Peanuts can be fed both in the shell and without a shell. Because of this peanut feeders typically come in two varieties those that are designed for peanuts in the shell and others for peanuts without a shell.

Peanut feeders for peanuts without a shell attract a wide variety of birds including: woodpeckers, nuthatches, chickadees and jays. Feeders for peanuts without a shell can also accommodate Jim’s Birdacious® Bark Butter® Bits. Our feeders for peanuts without the shell are designed to accommodate birds such as woodpeckers and nuthatches, which cling to feed.

Peanut feeders for peanuts with a shell target a specific group of birds in Ontario, jays. Blue Jays and Gray Jays are really the only birds large enough in our backyards to carry and crack a full peanut. Woodpeckers will also eat peanuts with a shell, but rather than taking the whole peanut and flying away with it as jays do, woodpeckers simply hold onto the feeder and peck the peanuts out of the shell. Squirrels and chipmunks also enjoy eating peanuts in the shell.

WBU Tube Feeder Cages: Add a WBU Tube Feeder Cage to our WBU Seed Tube Feeders, WBU Finch Feeders and WBU Peanut Feeders to protect the food from squirrels and larger birds. Cages feature a 1.5 inch by 1.5 inch mesh and are easy to install. Cages are available in two colours green and black.

WBU Mini Peanut Feeder: The WBU Mini Peanut Feeder is the perfect feeder to start offering peanuts (no shell) as well as Jim’s Birdacious® Bark Butter® Bits to your backyard birds. This feeder features a silo which holds 0.32 lbs. (145 g) of peanuts (no shell) as well as Jim’s Birdacious® Bark Butter® Bits and several feeding holes giving the birds lots of places to feed from. Small peanut eating birds including woodpecker, chickadees, nuthatches and titmice can easily cling to this feeder while grabbing a peanut. The WBU Mini Peanut Feeder comes in three bold colours: red, green and blue.

The mesh silo gives the birds lots of places to feed from. The Nut Feeder also features a bottom which is easily removed for cleaning. Squirrel Buster Peanut

Squirrel Buster Peanut: The Squirrel Buster Peanut holds peanuts (no shell) as well as Jim’s Birdacious® Bark Butter® Bits. The Squirrel Buster Peanut is weight adjustable and has a closing mechanism that shuts out squirrels as well as some of the heavier and undesirable birds. It is made of a special chew proof material. The Squirrel Buster Peanut is woodpecker friendly and designed with a tail prop which allows for comfortable feeding. Since birds consume the entire shelled peanut or Jim’s Birdacious® Bark Butter® Bits, there are no shells to accumulate under your feeder, making this feeder idea for decks, patios or apartments. NOTE: Cages with 1½” mesh do not work to keep Red Squirrels or Eastern Chipmunks out. They can fit through the bars of the cage and are too light to trigger many squirrel proof bird feeders.
